In the 19th and early 20th centuries, Americans received their news through newspapers and magazines. Television journalism has just taken over in the last 50 years. Today, the internet makes information and news available at the click of a button. The internet also plays a role in politics, and candidates use and special interest groups use different forms of advertising through the internet. With the evolution of media involving newspapers and magazines in the U.S, political parties used these outlets to push their agendas. How did each development influence American culture? New media (internet, social media, and electronics) have influenced American culture tremendously. In today’s society, the average American probably wakes up and immediately reaches for their smart phone to check their social media sites. On these sites, you can learn about any current events, breaking news, and what your friends are up to. You can explore new restaurants through social media and make and reservation for dinner. The internet has become an integral part of daily life. Technology has made it possible to watch TV, apply for a job, and call relatives overseas all at the same time if you wanted. Work meeting now use teleconferences online, and written forms of communication are expressed through emails and memo’s. You can also participate in online dating sites to help you find love. This is particularly beneficial to people who are very busy and who don’t have time for traditional ways of finding a date.
